Candidate Profile
You are an urban planner with advanced and progressive experience in private consulting practice, the public sector or ideally both. You are urbanist, problem solver, coordinator, project manager, and excellent communicator. You demonstrate a commitment to quality and continuous incremental improvement in your professional practice. You are comfortable with high project variety and complexity. You can facilitate difficult conversations and present your ideas in a public setting.
Responsibilities
Lead / coordinate and contribute to a range of physical planning and urban design projects, engaging in design issues that shape the built environment.
Lead / coordinate and undertake research, analysis, and synthesis to support discussions, achieve understanding, and make recommendations leading to planning and development approvals.
Lead / coordinate, produce and deliver high-quality planning briefs, technical reports, online content and presentations about planning policy, urban design, and lands use to diverse internal and external audiences.
Lead / coordinate and prepare graphics, maps and illustrations that articulate visions, plans, and policies in a clear, organized, and effective manner.
Lead / coordinate and assist in programming, designing, and facilitating public consultation and outreach events that include the residents of the community, project stakeholders, municipal officials and others.
Regularly engage and communicate with clients to provide sound planning and development advice to meet client and community / city-wide planning and policy goals.
Collaborate and coordinate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members, City Administration and Council through the planning and development approvals process.
Apply project management techniques and tools to lead / coordinate and support projects.
Maintain up-to-date planning knowledge and actively monitor emerging policy, political trends, and issues to support information exchange within the Studio on best practices and activities that can influence decision-making.
Contribute to CivicWorks’ professional and community profile through active participation in professional associations, external committees, mentorship opportunities, guest lectures, and similar activities.
