Ensemble

Creative infill approach.

Sited on a mid-block parcel and driven by a challenging site constraint, Ensemble is composed of 31 dwelling units across two distinct, yet complementary building forms.

Bisected by a utility right-of-way, the design solution was to embrace the site's undevelopable land and create a wide pedestrian corridor framed by two seperate buildings. The resulting space creates visual interest, greater connection, and opportunities for enhanced landscaping that extends from the street into the site.

Ensemble's modest infill aligns with Municipal Development Plan goals for more compact growth, providing increased housing options in the inner-city community of Altadore. The development also bolsters the incremental transition of 33 and 34 Avenue SW into pedestrian-friendly Main Streets.

Additional design considerations include transitional setbacks and stepbacks to reduce mass and maintain a thoughtful interface with neighbouring properties.
